General
Football is a game consisting of eleven men on each team. The purpose of the game is to move the ball into the opponent's territory as deeply as possible. For this reason , it is considered a military game by many people.
Players/Formations
The offensive team must have 7 players within one yard of the line of scrimmage or ON THE LINE. This leaves 4 people to play positions in the BACKFIELD. Only the people on the ends of the line and those in the backfield are eligible to receive a ford ward pass. This has , led to a number of different offensive formations. Those formations along with the name of the positions are shown below

SE=Split End LT=Left Tackle C=Center RT=Right Tackle FB=Fullback WB=Wingback
TE=Tight End LG=Left Guard RG=Right Guard QB=Quarterback HB=Halfback

The defense can position people where ever they want to. This has led to many formations.

CB = Corner BackDE = Defensive EndDT = Defensive TackleDG = Defensive Guard
LB = Line Backer N = Nose GuardS = Safety

Rules: High School
The ball is put into play by one team kicking off from the 40-yd. line at the beginning of each half and after every score.
The ball is dead when the ball carrier is tackled, goes out-of-bounds, or scores. An incomplete forward pass is also a dead ball.
Each play begins with the center hiking the ball to the quarterback. (ball must be hiked between the legs.)

The team with the ball has 4 downs to move the ball 10yds. Failure to pick up 10 yd's, will result in the other team taking over possession of the ball. However, the offensive team may punt the ball to the defensive team on 4th down if the offensive team doesn't think they can make the necessary yardage for a first down.
No one can line up ahead of the ball when waiting to put it in play. No one may go across the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped or a penalty will result. Offensive players may move backwards or sideways, but not forward.
The quarterback must make a forward pass from behind the line of scrimmage. Only one forward pass per play is legal.
Only the ends and backfield players may receive a pass.
A high school game consists of four 12-minute quarters, 1 minute between quarters, and 18 minutes at half-time.
Before the game the referee tosses a coin to decide who kicks off and who receives. the visiting captain will call the toss and the winner of the toss gets choice of: kick or receive, or which side of the field they want.
The offensive team has 30 seconds between downs to put the ball back into play.
If the kick-off goes into the end zone the receiving team cannot run it out, it is first down at the 20-yd. line.
If the game is tied at the end of the game, overtime is played as follows: each team gets 4 downs from the 10yd. line to try to score. This continues until one team scores. Back to the Top

Field Goal = 3 points
